For the first time in the history of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Internal Affairs disclosed data on car accidents in which citizens of foreign countries were the culprits.

According to police, citizens of Uzbekistan were the most unlucky on the road. They are more likely than all other foreigners to have accidents. In addition to them, road accidents are also often provoked by emergency situations with vehicles by citizens of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan and Armenia. At the same time, disciplined citizens of Estonia, Japan and Afghanistan are almost never included in the traffic police reports.

“Detailed statistics on accidents committed due to traffic violations by foreigners are contained in the published report of the Scientific Center for Traffic Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the nine months of 2020. Until now, the police published only summary figures for road accidents involving visitors, but now there is a breakdown by country", - Kommersant notes.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs notes that this year the accident rate on the roads of Russia as a whole has significantly decreased. This is largely due to the consequences of the lockdown introduced by the authorities amid the coronavirus pandemic. In the spring, due to restrictive measures, the number of cars on the roads dropped sharply.

According to statistics, all foreigners this year provoked 6.4 thousand accidents. Of these, 3 thousand were committed by citizens of the CIS countries, and 3.4 thousand - by residents of other states.

The palm tree in terms of the number of accidents - among citizens of Uzbekistan (797 accidents, this is 12.3% less than last year), Kyrgyzstan (701, -6.7%), Tajikistan (599, -11.4%), Azerbaijan (282, –17.5%), Armenia (280, –42%). The maximum number of deaths in road accidents - 76 - were provoked by citizens of Tajikistan. And due to the fault of drivers from Uzbekistan, the largest number of accidents with wounded occurred, all 1080 people suffered. If we calculate the proportion of the severity of the consequences, determined by the ratio of the number of dead and injured, then here the worst figures are for drivers from Ukraine.

According to experts, the leading positions of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan among the perpetrators of road accidents have a direct connection with the number of migrants from these countries: for 9 months of 2020, 4.15 million visitors from these countries were counted in Russia, this is 54% of all registered in the Russian Federation foreigners. The police noted that against the backdrop of the pandemic, the total number of migrants in the Russian Federation decreased from 9-11 to 6.3 million people.

Most accidents involving foreigners occur with taxi cars. Often, service owners allow migrants to drive without checks and the replacement of foreign driving licenses required by law. Many taxi drivers, trying to earn money, are forced to drive for 14-15 hours, which leads to disastrous consequences.
