Pandemic
If at the beginning of the pandemic, the coronavirus infection in Russia was brought from abroad, then during the second wave, citizens who did not travel outside the country became the source of the spread of the virus.

It was stated by Professor Georgy Bazykin, the head of the molecular evolution sector of Skoltech Institute of Industrial Engineering and Technology.

"Now everyone is infected mainly with a virus that has been around for a long time in Russia. There was no need for additional deliveries, we have our own epidemic and it is quite enough to feed this epidemic. Nothing similar to what happened in March, when most of the infections were from newcomers, now most of the infections are from people who do not travel anywhere, but live next to us", - RIA Novosti quotes the expert's words.

Earlier, the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova stated that most cases of COVID-19 infection were detected among those who returned from abroad, in particular from Turkey. According to Popova, it was Turkey that accounted for 90% of imported infections.

Let us recall that additional quarantine measures have been introduced in the country. Rospotrebnadzor published recommendations in which it advised Russians to spend the New Year's holidays at home or in the country.

And the ex-head of Rospotrebnadzor Gennady Onishchenko proposed to completely abandon the long New Year holidays, which are "harmful to the health and economy of the country", and the head of the Ministry of Health, Mikhail Murashko, in connection with the second wave of the pandemic, suggested considering the issue of restricting movement between regions and within them.
