On Tuesday, December 29, a Day of Mourning was declared in the Murmansk region for the sailors who died in the wreck of the Onega ship. The governor of the region, Andrey Chibis, promised the families of the victims to provide targeted assistance, as well as to pay a million rubles each.

“Today the Murmansk region is mourning - a day of mourning has been declared in our region. This grief is not only for the families of the victims, it is grief for the entire city, the entire North. Our sailors did not return home. On behalf of all northerners, I offer my sincere condolences to the families of the victims. We will provide the support you need. Each family will receive a million rubles. In addition, we will additionally work out targeted assistance for loved ones of the victims”, - the governor said in his video message on Instagram.

Let us remind you that due to a strong storm during fishing, the vessel “Onega” capsized in the sea. There were 19 people on board, only two of them managed to escape. The search for the bodies of the dead continues. At the same time, experts are not sure that they will be able to find them: because of the storm played out in the region, the fishermen could be carried away to the open sea.

After the incident, a criminal case was opened due to a safety violation during the operation of the vessel.
