For interrogation, Sergiy was taken to the Investigative Committee for the Sverdlovsk Region. He is suspected of a crime under the article on inducement to commit suicide of a minor. The maximum sentence under this article is up to four years in prison.
"Preliminary, we can say that the investigative actions are carried out with gross violations of the Criminal Procedure Code. There must be good reasons for conducting searches at night, and we were not informed about them. We do not know why he was taken away and why the lawyers were not allowed to see him”, - says Kommersant, the words of the lawyer Svetlana Gerasimova.
It is assumed that the reason for the detention was a sermon, during which Sergius asked if the parishioners were ready to die for Russia, for children and for the future. A recording of this sermon was posted on YouTube. According to the representative of the monastery, Dmitry Savchenko, there was no talk of suicide, but only "about people's self-sacrifice, about patriotism".
This video has already been tested for a call to suicide at the request of the child rights ombudsman in the Sverdlovsk region.
Today, December 29, Sergius should be escorted to Moscow, where a preventive measure will be chosen for him.
Earlier, on December 22, representatives of the Yekaterinburg diocese and armed bailiffs arrived at the monastery. They intended to conduct a construction expertise. The inhabitants of the monastery prevented the entry of the security forces into the territory. The reason for their appearance was the decision of the regional arbitration court on December 18 to conduct a construction and technical examination in the monastery.
Recall that the conflict in the Sredneuralsky nunnery arose in the spring of this year - after it became known about the sermons of Father Sergius, who called the coronavirus a "myth" and stated that people are threatened with chipization and extinction if they agree to be vaccinated against the infection. In the diocese, the schema monk was forbidden to continue such sermons, but he did not obey , after which he was fined 90,000 rubles for spreading fakes about the coronavirus. In turn, representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church suggested that the pilgrims refrain from visiting the rebellious monastery.
