The S-500 Prometheus air defense system, capable of operating in near space, will be put into service after the tests are completed in 2021, said Deputy Defense Minister Alexey Krivoruchko.

"Next year we plan to complete the testing and to adopt an anti-aircraft missile system S-500 and radar meter band "Voronezh"", - said Krivoruchko newspaper "Red Star".

Let us note that at the Army-2020 forum in August, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov, who oversees the military-industrial complex, indicated that the country is testing the S-500 system. In particular, a simplified configuration of this air defense system is being tested.

According to Interfax, according to Borisov, all elements of the S-500 have been manufactured and are being tested.

The commander-in-chief of the Aerospace Forces Sergey Surovkin stated that the S-500 is capable of destroying satellites and hypersonic weapons of all modifications in near space.

Let us recall that the S-500 is being developed by JSC Concern East Kazakhstan region Almaz-Antey. The start of its production was announced in September 2019. The head of Rostec, Sergey Chemezov, predicted the serial production of the S-500 in a year.

The S-500 is considered a new generation of anti-aircraft missile systems, which uses the principle of separate solutions for the destruction of ballistic and aerodynamic targets. Earlier it was reported that the S-500 system will be able to deal with maneuvering targets and work in near space, where most of the military satellites of different countries, responsible for reconnaissance, communications, navigation and target designation, operate.
