The head of the National Anti-Corruption Committee (NAC) Kirill Kabanov presented the most high-profile criminal cases of the past year.

The first line in the rating, according to the head of the NAK, was taken by the arrest of the mayor of Tomsk Ivan Klein. A criminal case was opened against Klein, who was dismissed from his post on charges of abuse of office. He is suspected of lobbying for family business interests.

In second place in the ranking is the arrest of Deputy Prime Minister of the Moscow Region Dmitry Kurakin. He is suspected of taking a bribe on an especially large scale in the illegal sale of timber to China. The investigation believes that the damage from the actions of the official and his accomplices exceeded 4 billion rubles.

The arrest of the former governor of the Ivanovo region, Mikhail Men, was no less loud. The official is suspected of embezzling 700 million rubles from the regional budget.

On the fourth line of the rating of the NAC - the arrest of the deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Irkutsk region Andrey Levchenko, the son of the former governor of the Irkutsk region. Levchenko is accused under part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud on an especially large scale), the amount of damage caused to him is 185 million rubles.

The next case is connected with checking the work of the rector of the Russian National Research Medical University named after N.I. Pirogov, Sergei Lukyanov. The security officials suspect him of violating the rules for conducting public procurement, seeing signs of affiliation in the concluded contracts.

On the sixth line of the largest corruption cases of the year is the arrest of the Deputy General Director for Information Technologies of JSC Russian Post Sergey Yemelchenkov. He is suspected under part 3 of article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Excessive powers with the infliction of grave consequences."

Emelchenkov is followed by the arrest of the former deputy director of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia Valery Maksimenko. The TFR accuses him of abuse of office, causing damage in the amount of 189 million rubles. The suspect faces up to ten years in prison.

NAC gives the eighth place in the "corruption rating of the year" to being caught red-handed while transferring 3.4 million rubles of the alleged bribe of the vice-governor of the Kirov region Andrey Plitko. According to the investigation, the official turned out to be the organizer of a criminal group that collected kickbacks from entrepreneurs for concluding contracts for the sale of timber.

In ninth place is the arrest of the Governor of the Khabarovsk Territory Sergei Furgal. According to the investigation, Furgal organized assassinations and murders of entrepreneurs in the Khabarovsk Territory and the Amur Region in 2004-2005.

The tenth line in the ranking is occupied by the arrest of businessman and politician Anatoly Bykov in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, who is charged with tax evasion for 77 million rubles and the creation of a criminal community that was involved in organizing contract killings in the 1990s.

According to Kirill Kabanov, these arrests show that law enforcement officers are not going to turn a blind eye to the corruption that prevails in the government. “I believe that there is a need to toughen the punishment for such crimes up to 25 years. In addition, it is necessary to seek the return of the stolen funds to the budget”, - Sputnik radio quotes the statement of the head of the NAC.
