“Today, every seventh crime in Russia is committed using information technology or in cyberspace”, - said Konstantin Komarda, head of the department for investigating cybercrimes and high-tech crimes in the RF IC in an interview with TASS.
At the same time, it is much more difficult for investigators to disclose crimes in this area: criminals carefully hide their tracks: they mask IP addresses, go online through public access points, or use accounts and identification data that belong to others. To confront such crimes, investigators should not use the traditional approach to investigation, but begin to understand the functioning of the cybersphere, be able to work in the information environment, contact IT-specialists, know how to find evidence of a committed crime on the network, how to interrogate witnesses.
Earlier it was noted that cases of telephone fraud have become more frequent in Russia. The Central Bank estimated its growth three times in the past year. At the end of the first half of the year alone, the regulator blocked over 9.7 thousand numbers of fraudsters, which were used to lure out personal data of Russians and receive money from the card. According to BrandMonitor estimates, over 150 billion rubles were stolen from Russians over the course of a year.
