"We pray for the new administration": Trump delivered a farewell speech

20 января 2021, 07:46
Donald Trump delivered a farewell address as President of the United States. He stated that his administration "reasserted the sacred idea that in America, the government answers to the people".

"We did what we came here to do — and so much more", - Donald Trump said.

According to outgoing head of state Trump, he became "the first president in decades not to start any new wars", and his administration "restored the strength" of the country and "American leadership abroad". In alliances with other countries, the government under the leadership of Trump "breathed in the new life". As an example, he mentioned the "uniting of other countries to oppose China like never before".

The loss of self-confidence and “national greatness” Trump called the greatest danger that the United States face now.

Interesting, that in his speech, Trump did not mention Biden by name. This is noted by many media sources, including Reuters.

“This week, we inaugurate a new administration and pray for its success in keeping America safe and prosperous. We extend our best wishes, and we also want them to have luck — a very important word”, - Trump said cryptically in the video, which was shot at the White House with four American flags as a backdrop.

Trump's own political movement, he said, is at the beginning of the path.

"Now, as I prepare to hand over power to the new administration at noon on Wednesday, I want you to know that the movement that we have started is just the beginning', - Donald Trump is sure.

Trump will not attend Biden’s swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday. This is for the first time in more than 150 years: Andrew Johnson skipped the inauguration of Ulysses S. Grant in 1869.

Trump condemned the storming of the Congress building that took place on January 6 after the rally at which he spoke.

“All Americans were horrified by the attack on our Capitol. Political violence is an attack on everything we value as Americans. This can never be tolerated", - Trump underlined.

Earlier, Trump said that he intends to pardon one hundred people on the last day of his presidency, but not himself.

It's worth reminding that after the riots that followed the rally on January 6, the House of Representatives impeached Trump, accusing him of inciting insurrection. The case was sent to the Senate. The Senate returned from vacation only today, not having time to impeach Trump, and today the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden is scheduled.
