Most of all among the newborn citizens of the capital there are Sofias and Alexanders. But there are also Rihanna, Malvina, Leonardo and even Patricia-Demeter-Paige.

Employees of the Moscow Civil Registry Office told about the names that Muscovites gave to their newborn children in 2020. Information about this appeared on the official website of the mayor of the capital.

The most popular names remain Sofia (Sophia), as more than 2.8 thousand girls were named, and Alexander, more than 2.5 thousand boys in the capital have such a name. If we talk about the dynamics, then, compared to 2019, parents began to give their children such male names as Mark, Lev, Matvey more often, and among girls you can now more often find the names of Miroslav, Mia, Amelia, Agatha or Ariana.

The five popular male names also included Mikhail, Maxim, Artyom, Mark and Ivan. Among the female names for little Muscovites, Maria, Anna, Alisa, Victoria, Polina are popular.

Also in Moscow they prefer to call children unusual names. Such foreign names as Stefania, Robert, Olivia, Melania, Stefan and Theodor, as well as Zlatoslav and Yasna are popular.

Some parents chose ancient Greek names for their children: Athena, Dionysus, Aphrodite, Odysseus. Two girls were given the name Spark, two babies were named after the ancient Greek mythological queen Cassiopeia (or the famous constellation of the same name). Two girls, born in 2020, were named Malvina.

The names associated with writers, actors and other famous personalities also attract Muscovites: children were called by such names as Roots, Leonardo, Rihanna, Harry.

In addition, the children were given names such as North and Severina, Spring, Ocean, Mars, Lucius, Lucifer, Olivier, one boy was named Rome, and two girls were named India and Vienna.

There were double and triple names: Venus-Veronica, Patricia-Demeter-Page, Alexander-Sever, Yermak-Alexander, Lev-Moses, Ludwig-Alexander.
