An employee of the diplomatic mission told RIA Novosti that on February 2, a rally was held near the consulate from 14:00 to 20:00, during which a can of paint was thrown into the building. During the time that the action lasted, the number of its participants varied, the maximum number was about ten people.
The consular officer did not specify what exactly the people gathered outside the diplomatic mission were chanting and what they called for, but stressed that the general direction of the action was precisely anti-Russian.
- The building suffered material damage. These hooligan actions could pose a threat to the visitors of the Consulate General and employees, the Consulate General told TASS.
They also stated that they repeatedly tried to contact the New York police, but law enforcement officers did not consider it possible to arrive at the scene to restore order.
“We sent an appeal to the Office for the Affairs of Diplomatic Missions on Tuesday evening with a demand to ensure security”, - the diplomatic mission stressed.
It's worth reminding that at the end of January, the Russian Embassy in the United States demanded from the State Department to return telephone communications to the Consulate General in New York. The State Department said it was not informed about the problem.
