Arrested since the moment of arrest - July 9, 2020, Sergei Furgal was charged with Part 3 of Art. 30, pp. "a", "e", "g", "h" part 2 of Art. 105 of the Criminal Code (attempted murder of two or more persons, committed by an organized group, out of selfish motives, for hire, in a generally dangerous way), nn. "a", "g", "z", "k" part 2 of Art. 105 of the Criminal Code (murder of two or more persons committed by an organized group, for hire, in order to conceal another crime), part 3 of Art. 222 CC (illegal arms trafficking).
According to investigators, Furgal was involved in organizing a criminal group that attempted the murder of Alexander Smolsky and the murder of Yevgeny Zori and Oleg Bulatov in 2004-2005. The investigation insists that the killings were carried out in order to advance Fugal's commercial interests.
The Investigative Committee believes that the attempt on Smolsky's life is connected with competition in the business of accepting scrap metal in the Amur Region: Furgal and his business partner Nikolai Mistryukov (a key witness in the case of an ex-official who was sent under house arrest) created new points for accepting scrap in the region where Smolsky worked. Investigators believe that the competitor paid more for the delivered scrap, and “Furgal and Mistryukov demanded a price change from him” and provoked conflicts.
When the prices could not be brought down, investigators believe, the partners decided to “remove” the competitor. Smolsky, however, survived, and after the assassination attempt he lowered the purchase prices for the metal.
Marat Kadyrov has been named the perpetrator of this crime. He is currently under arrest.
The reason for the murder of the entrepreneur Zorya, the investigators say, is a long conflict as a result of court proceedings over the reinforced concrete plant acquired by Zorya. According to the Investigative Committee, a quarrel between Zorya and Andrei Paley was simulated, and he shot Zorya. After that, Mistryukov was detained along with another partner of Furgal - ex-policeman Oleg Bulatov.
Furgal categorically denies all charges brought against the RF Investigative Committee, TASS reports, citing the former governor's lawyer.
Recall that the case of Sergei Furgal was included in the list of the most high-profile criminal cases last year. Supporters of the former head of the region are sure that the criminal prosecution is political in nature.
