"Such actions on their part are unacceptable and inconsistent with their diplomatic status", - said the Russian Foreign Ministry. The ministry expressed the hope that henceforth diplomats from these countries will behave appropriately, in accordance with the norms of international law.
We will remind, earlier in the Russian capital and in the regions held rallies in support of the arrested opposition leader Alexey Navalny. Residents demanded his release. On February 2, the court replaced his suspended sentence with a real one. The oppositionist was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison. Taking into account the served sentence, he will go to jail for 2.5 years.
After the verdict, a number of European countries demanded the release of the politician. In particular, the head of the German Foreign Ministry Heiko Maas and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke out against the arrest. For his release, French President Emmanuel Macron spoke out, insisted on this in the United States and Great Britain. EU head of diplomacy Josep Borrell, who arrived in Moscow on Friday, also demanded the release of Navalny.
At the same time, the Russian Foreign Ministry believes that the issue of arresting a Russian for one or another offense is the country's internal affair. The ministry asks foreign states not to interfere in the affairs of a sovereign country.
