In the Babushkinsky court in Moscow, a hearing began on the case of libel against the veteran of the Great Patriotic War Ignat Artyomenko. The accused is Alexey Navalny. He was taken to the courtroom from the pre-trial detention center.

During the meeting, Navalny asked for time to communicate with lawyers Vadim Kobzev and Olga Mikhailova. He also stated that he had not seen the case materials and wanted to get acquainted with them. In this regard, the judge announced a break until 11:30, according to the Telegram channel Mash.

The 94-year-old victim participates in the court session via video link. The meeting is also attended by two diplomats from France and Great Britain.

It's worth reminding that Navalny is charged with Part 2 of Art. 128.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Slander"). The sanction of this article provides for punishment in the form of a fine or compulsory work. According to the investigation, on June 2, 2020, Navalny published a video on his Telegram channel and on his Twitter page, in which veteran Artemenko spoke out about the need to amend the Russian Constitution. At the same time, Navalny accompanied the publication with a comment "knowingly bears a false character, discrediting the honor and dignity of the veteran, undermining his reputation". The oppositionist did not admit his guilt.

The other day Navalny changed the suspended sentence in the Yves Rocher case to a real one - 3.5 years in a general regime colony.
