The Ministry of Internal Affairs wants to get access to the telephone contacts of Russians

The department has announced a tender for 63 million rubles to finalize its application. It will need to integrate the Anti-Fraud module. With the help of this module, the police intend to calculate fraudulent calls to Russians. The unknown number will be compared with the database of fraudsters' numbers, which the police already have, and if the number from which they are calling matches, the owner of the phone will be warned about it. At the same time, in order for the application to work, the Russians who have installed it on their phone will have to provide access to their contacts.

Alexey Drozd, head of the information security department of SerchInform, commented to Kommersant that the Interior Ministry's plans have a downside: the department plans to replenish its database through user contacts. At the same time, the risk of misuse of this information, as well as its leakage into the network, remains.
