One of the director's businesses, a London pub, has been hit by the pandemic. Richie decided to use taxpayer funds to stay afloat.

Guy Ritchie's Lore of the Land pub in central London appeared three years ago: visitors are treated to beer and venison, which is delivered directly from the filmmaker's country estate, according to The Sun.

Recently, the management of the Fatboy Pub Company, which runs the bar, reported that the establishment incurred losses in the amount of £ 457,000, and, in order to stay afloat, intends to use the funding that the state is giving to businesses affected by the pandemic. The corresponding program allows you to provide salaries for employees who are forced to go on vacation due to a lockdown.

The desire of the wealthy filmmaker to shift his problems onto the shoulders of taxpayers sparked outrage in the House of Lords. As stated by parliamentarians, such schemes were introduced to support small and medium-sized businesses, and not at all millionaires like Richie.

After his divorce from Madonna in 2008, Richie received £ 59 million in cash. The cost of his estate in Wiltshire is estimated at 27 million pounds. He also has a £ 10 million home in central London and expensive New York real estate, and his latest film, Gentlemen, grossed £ 84 million worldwide. In total, the director's fortune is estimated at about $ 150 million. Despite such wealth, with the onset of the pandemic, Richie's company has already laid off some of its employees, and is trying to shift the salaries of others to the state.

Richie isn't the only star to tackle her problems this way: Chefs Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay, steel mogul Lakshmi Mittal, and the organization that runs royal residences including Kensington Palace have already received government aid.

As an example, their fellow citizens put the singer Ed Sheeran, who also owns a bar in London, but refused state assistance in subsidizing the salaries of employees and pays for the downtime of the institution out of his own pocket.
