In the near future, Russian car dealerships may face a shortage of supplies of foreign cars due to a change in tax policy.

According to Denis Migal, the founder of the Fresh Auto network of car dealerships, after the plans announced by the Russian authorities to increase the scrappage fee, foreign car manufacturers may refuse to replenish their model lines that are presented on the Russian market. Because of this, the domestic car market may lose at least some new foreign cars, and prices for cars will rise.

“First of all, prices for foreign cars imported from abroad will rise by about 70,000 rubles. And even those models whose production or assembly is localized in Russia will also rise in price, since they depend on imported components”, - Izvestia reports, citing Migal’s calculations.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade came up with the idea of a new increase in the utilization fee for cars in Russia. It is expected that the collection will increase immediately by 25%. Because of this, for cars, it will grow to 25 thousand rubles, and for trucks - up to 187.5 thousand rubles.

It is noteworthy that not only purely imported models will rise in price, but also those assembled in Russia, since imported components are involved in their assembly.

"Carmakers simply do not want to bring new models to our market because of the increased duties", - the expert quotes the publication.

Foreign automakers have not yet confirmed plans to reduce the supply of cars to Russia.

Earlier it was reported that in the past year, due to the coronavirus pandemic and a general decrease in the income of the population in Russia, auto sales fell sharply.
