CNN: North Korea's nuclear program funded by hackers

According to Dozhd TV channel, in the UN report, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is accused of "operations against financial institutions and virtual exchange offices" to keep the country's economy afloat, which is in an almost eternal crisis. At the same time, North Korea served nuclear and ballistic facilities, "continuing to seek resources and technology for these programs abroad".

The UN report was prepared on behalf of a group of experts of this organization on North Korea, a body designed to monitor the compliance and effectiveness of the sanctions imposed on the country. It consists of information received from UN member states, intelligence agencies, the media and defectors from North Korea, but not from its authorities.

The North Korean mission to the UN did not respond to CNN's request for the report, but the statements in the report are in line with plans recently reported by Kim Jong-un, the channel said. In particular, a month ago the North Korean leader said about work on new modern nuclear weapons and on warheads capable of penetrating enemy missile defense systems.

On the other hand, there is nothing sensational in the UN report - such documents are usually issued every six months, one in early autumn, another in early spring. When the current one will be published is not yet clear. Previous leaks of documents from the UN have already led to opposition from China and Russia and to delays in their publication.

In the fall of 2019, North Korea conducted two new missile launches, but the missiles turned out to be short-range and did not even reach the territorial waters of neighboring Japan.
