In January 2020, more than 50% of Russians read news on the Internet, receiving information through aggregators and social networks. This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the Public Opinion Foundation.

Among social networks and instant messengers, the most popular among residents of the country are VKontakte (13%), Instagram10%, as well as WhatsApp, Viber and Telegram, with 8% of votes each. About 5% of respondents use the Odnoklassniki social network as a news source, 4% - and Facebook, 2% - Twitter. Over time, the preferences of users in the way they receive information are rapidly changing.

"Compared to 2018, the popularity of Instagram as a platform for reading news has grown: in 2018, 4% of respondents learned news from Instagram, in January 2021 - 10%", - Interfax cites the results of the study.

Among the readers who search for news on media sites, 12% choose Vesti.ru, 9% - RIA Novosti, 8% - Lenta.ru, 5% - Argumenty i Fakty.

At the same time, about a quarter of Russians (24%) admitted that they have never used the Internet.

Previously, the overwhelming majority of residents received information from newspapers, radio and television. The "revolution" in the way we receive news has come about primarily due to the increased use of mobile devices.
