Viktor Ishayev, 72, who headed the Khabarovsk Territory from 1991-2009, is often called not just a "political heavyweight", but also "the patriarch of Far Eastern politics".

After 2009, he was the president's plenipotentiary representative in the Far Eastern Federal District for three years, and then for a year he was also the Minister for Development of the Far East.

However, in March 2019, long-retired Viktor Ishayev was detained and placed under house arrest. First, he was accused of fraud, then of embezzlement. He did not admit his guilt during the investigation, although, according to the lawyer, the ex-governor compensated the damage initially imputed to him in the amount of 5.7 million rubles.

Today, on February 17, the Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow sentenced Viktor Ishayev to a suspended sentence of five years in a case of embezzlement (part 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code). Viktor Ishayev was also fined 800 thousand rubles, the Kommersant newspaper notes.

Another person involved in the criminal case, Gennady Kondratov, was given a suspended sentence of three years in a colony with a fine of 400 thousand rubles, - reports the Interfax news agency. The reason was the conclusion of a lease agreement for non-residential premises for an office at an inflated price in the 2010s with Beis LLC controlled by him.
