Prices for carrots and potatoes have shot up

Now the prices for lunch meat, poultry and eggs are preparing for takeoff, but the prices for potatoes and carrots have already demonstrated a record growth - by more than a third. The Ministry of Agriculture expects July adjustments.

According to Rosstat data, in the first five weeks of 2021, the average retail price per kilogram of potatoes increased by 40% compared to the same period last year: 30.9 rubles. against 22.2 rubles. The rise in price for carrots was 34%, now it costs 37 rubles. per kg, while in 2020 it cost an average of 27.5 rubles.

The price of tomatoes increased by 20% (up to 173 rubles), by 16% - for cucumbers (up to 175.4 rubles), by 10% - onions (up to 27.8 rubles). White cabbage remained at its last year's price, 21.4 rubles.

Only tomatoes and cucumbers from this list are not included in the approved list of socially important essential food items.

The reasons for the rise in prices for potatoes are bad weather and poor harvest. Carrots have risen in price due to a decrease in planting volume caused by a surplus in 2019.

Note that in Russia there is a rapid rise in prices for food products. On the eve it became known that meat processors are demanding to raise prices for sausage, today retailers turned to the Ministry of Industry and Trade with a statement about their readiness to raise prices for poultry and eggs. Prices for sunflower oil are already breaking their own records, despite the fact that they were "frozen" for this product.

It's worth reminding that after the prices for sugar rose by 71.5% since the beginning of 2020 by December, and the price of sunflower oil rose by 23.7%, the authorities decided to artificially limit the rise in prices for these categories of goods.

At the same time, the head of the Ministry of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov said that the idea of "freezing" was a failure. He pointed out that prices are influenced by Russian speculators who hold on to the product, hoping that its value will increase in order to sell it more profitably for themselves.

Last year, we note that food prices in Russia rose by 7.9%. At the same time, in the countries of the European Union, the rise in prices was only 1.1%.
