Federal Air Transport Agency denied the upcoming resumption of charters to Egypt

19 февраля 2021, 13:31
The Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) does not confirm media reports that charter flights from Russia to the Egyptian resorts of Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh will resume in the near future.

The reason for the reaction of the Federal Air Transport Agency was the publications that appeared in the domestic and foreign media about the imminent resumption of charter traffic between Russia and the resort cities of Egypt.

"Rosaviatsia does not confirm the assumptions of individual media outlets about the resumption of charter flights to the resort cities of Egypt", - Kommersant quotes the press service of the department.

The head of the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation, Ashraf Novair, became the source of information on the resumption of charters. He announced about the alleged agreements reached with Moscow on flights of Russian charters to Egypt. Some media reported that individual airlines have already applied for flights since March 28.

Russia suspended charter flights to Egypt in 2015. The reason was the crash of the Airbus A321 of the Kogalymavia company. The plane flying from Sharm El Sheikh to St. Petersburg crashed over Sinai. The victims of the plane crash were 224 people.

FSB officials called the incident a terrorist attack. However, when the relatives of the victims appealed to the Egyptian court, they were denied the requirement to recognize the disaster as a consequence of the terrorist attack.

The termination of charter flights from Russia to Egypt had a negative impact on the development of the country's tourism industry, focused on receiving Russian travelers.
