As Reuters reports with reference to the head of the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation, Ashraf Noveira, flights may resume as early as March this year.
“The Russian airline Nordwind has applied to open flights to both cities from March 28, 2021”, - the statement said.
TASS clarifies that between the countries "an agreement in principle has been reached on the return of charters", - but the exact date has not yet been determined.
"We need technical approval and organization of logistics to determine the date of the first flight," - specifies the news agency.
Air traffic between Russia and Egypt was terminated after the tragedy in Sinai: in October 2015, a Russian plane of the Kogalymavia company crashed there. The plane crash killed 224 people.
In 2018, flights with Cairo were resumed, but Moscow's decision did not affect the return of flights to popular tourist resorts located at a fairly large distance from the Egyptian capital. This had a significant impact on passenger traffic and dealt a tangible blow to the tourism industry in Egypt, focused on receiving Russian travelers.
