Third vaccine against COVID-19 registered in Russia

As Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said at a government meeting on February 20, the first 120,000 doses will be introduced into civil circulation in mid-March 2021.

The difference between KoviVac and two other vaccines registered in Russia - Sputnik V and EpiVacCorona - is as follows. CoviVac is a whole-virion vaccine: it contains the whole but already killed Sars-Cov-2 virus, not parts of it.

In the Russian Federation, large-scale vaccination of the population started in December 2020. According to the latest official data, about 2.2 million people (1.5% of the population) have already been vaccinated from the coronavirus in the country.

Clinical trials of the CoviVac vaccine began on September 25, 2020 on a group of 200 volunteers. The participants in the trials tolerated the administration of the drug satisfactorily.

The first Russian vaccine to receive registration documents from the Ministry of Health was "Sputnik V" of the V.I. Gamalei. Then the drug "EpiVacCorona", developed at the Novosibirsk center "Vector", was registered.
