Russian hockey player Artemiy Panarin, who plays for the New York Rangers, was asked to take a forced leave after the scandal. The athlete was accused of beating the girl and giving a bribe to hush up the case. Now he is suspended from games for a while while the proceedings are ongoing.

The club itself believes that the player's accusations may be politically motivated. Earlier, the hockey player publicly supported the Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny. Prior to that, he had repeatedly criticized the Russian government. After the hockey player's statements, coach Andrei Nazarov recalled in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda a case of ten years ago that happened to the hockey player when he was still playing for Russia. He beat a girl in Riga and gave a bribe to avoid responsibility. The case was hushed up. Then Nazarov was the head coach of the Moscow Region “Vityaz”, and 20-year-old Panarin played for this club, recalls “Soviet Sport”.

The National Hockey League also supported the Russian hockey player.

Let's remind that Panarin is one of the most productive and highly paid players. During the season in the American New York Rangers, he earned about $ 11 million.
