The Armenian armed forces demanded the immediate resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. This was announced at the General Staff of the republic. In response, the prime minister dismissed the head of the General Staff Onik Gasparyan.

They also protested in connection with today's dismissal of the first deputy head of the General Staff Tiran Khachatryan. Pashinyan called it an attempt to carry out a military coup.

“In such difficult conditions, such a decision is an anti-state and irresponsible step. For a long time, the armed forces of Armenia have patiently endured the attacks of the current authorities against the army, but there is a limit to everything. The armed forces of Armenia fulfilled their duty with honor, fought the enemy side by side with the people. The ineffective management of the current authorities and the most serious mistakes in foreign policy have brought the country to the brink of ruin", - Sputnik Armenia quotes, the words of the representatives of the General Staff.

The military added that in connection with the current situation, “the Armenian armed forces demand the resignation of the RA Prime Minister and the Government, at the same time warning to refrain from using force against the people, whose children died defending the Motherland and Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh - ed.)”...

The statement of the military was followed by the dismissal of the head of the General Staff, Onik Gasparyan. He was dismissed by the prime minister.

"Today I signed a decision on dismissal of Onik Gasparyan. I assess this statement as an attempt at a military coup", - Pashinyan said live on Facebook.

Khachatryan was fired earlier, after commenting on Pashinyan's words about the ineffectiveness of Russian Iskander OTRK. The military man called the prime minister's statement "frivolous" and asked journalists "not to form a wrong idea" about the Iskander.

Let us remind that today the oppositionists in Yerevan blocked the streets, demanding the resignation of the prime minister. Activists paralyzed traffic in the metro and blocked the streets. The police detained some of the protesters.

Note that the opposition is calling for the resignation of the Prime Minister after the signing in November 2020 of a trilateral agreement on an armistice in Nagorno-Karabakh. According to the document, the Armenian and Azerbaijani soldiers remain at their former positions, while Yerevan liberates four more regions. Baku considers this territory its own. Armenia suffered crushing losses in this war. Pashinyan himself explained that he had decided on a truce only because without him the next day the Armenian military would have been surrounded.
