First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces Tiran Khachatryan has been dismissed by Armenian President Armen Sarkisian. This happened after the military called the statements of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan about the ineffectiveness of the Russian Iskander missile systems "frivolous".

"To release Tiran Khachatryan from the post of First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia", - said in a document published on the President's website.

Recall that in an interview with 1in.am, Nikol Pashinyan commented on the words of former President Serzh Sargsyan that the Armenian military could use Russian Iskander at the very beginning of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh.

"Let him ask the question, why didn't the Iskander missile explode? Or why did it explode ten percent, for example?", - the words of the Prime Minister quotes Sputnik Armenia.

The deputy general staff, in turn, commented on Pashinyan's words, stating that the ineffectiveness of Iskander is out of the question.

"Of course, impossible... How?... Iskander?... One shot?... On 10%?... Sorry, but this is not serious. I don’t know who said what, but it’s impossible”, - Khachatryan expressed his opinion and asked the media representatives “not to form misconceptions about this weapon”.

Note that during the escalation of the military conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh in 2020, the Armenian armed forces had at least 16 missile systems, including four Iskander missile systems.
