The granddaughter of the famous Soviet sculptor Yevgeny Vuchetich, Tatyana Valerius, urged in her blog to abandon the idea of returning the monument to Dzerzhinsky to Lubyanka Square. It's worth reminding that Vuchetich owns such world-famous works "The Warrior-Liberator" in Berlin, "Mother-Motherland" in Volgograd and "Beat Swords into Plowshares" in New York. Here's what Valerius wrote:
“Since the discussions about Nevsky and Dzerzhinsky have intensified and sometimes even resulted in voting, I, as a direct descendant of the guilty sculptor (I almost wrote:“ the granddaughter of the veteran Artyomenko ”) have to say something.
This ill-fated monument must not return to the Lubyanka. Never.
He is a product of time and must stay in that time.
My grandfather, most likely, did not believe for a second in the righteousness of his hero.
Working on the monument, he proceeded from the conjuncture and the availability of an order.
If you are the son of a nobleman, a white officer in Soviet Russia and at the same time, for some reason, are still alive, your only way is to serve faithfully with all your might. Which he did.
Every time when it comes to the return of Dzerzhinsky, it seems to me that the grandfather's soul in the next world suffers and toils from its sins.
Better, however, a fountain of some kind.
Or a tree..."
