The United States and Great Britain are discussing the next introduction of restrictive measures against Russia in connection with the "violation of the ban on the use of chemical weapons".

According to Bloomberg, US President Joe Biden is going to consider imposing sanctions on the Russian national debt as an "extreme step". Washington may agree to this, the agency points out, if Moscow again "violates the ban on the use of chemical weapons". The United States will probably do this in cooperation with Europe.

As another measure, the possibility of introducing restrictive measures against "Russian oligarchs" is being considered. To do this, the United States can use the "Magnitsky Act", which allows the imposition of sanctions against persons involved, in the opinion of the American authorities, in human rights violations or corruption.

With regard to claims about human rights in Russia, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said that "no one has the right to teach us how to live".

The diplomat is sure that Washington and Moscow need to unite their efforts in certain areas.

"It would be in the interests of our countries to join efforts in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, terrorism, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and climate change, as well as joint space exploration and protection of the Arctic ecology The Russian side expects to deepen the dialogue on regional topics. These are Syria, Afghanistan, the situation on the Korean Peninsula, the restoration of work within the framework of the JCPOA, the situation in the Middle East, problems of Latin America, Asia", - Africa, the ambassador said.

It's worth reminding that the US State Department named the conditions under which Russia will be able to avoid new US sanctions: the country must destroy all chemical weapons it possesses under international supervision.

Back in 2017, Russia officially reported on the elimination of chemical weapons on its territory. However, the United States believes that in reality this is not the case, while Moscow is allegedly conducting an undeclared program for the development of chemical weapons, and by now has considerable stocks of toxic substances.
