Moscow occupied the first place in Russia for the corruption crimes. The capital is followed by Tatarstan, Stavropol Territory, Moscow Region, Bashkortostan, Krasnodar Territory, Chelyabinsk and Rostov Regions, Dagestan and Perm Territory.

This was announced by the head of the department for supervision over the implementation of anti-corruption legislation of the Prosecutor General's Office Viktor Baldin.

In an interview with RIA Novosti, he noted that last year the least number of bribery cases was revealed in Chukotka, in the Jewish Autonomous Region, in Mari El, Adygea, Ingushetia, Tuva, Khakassia, Murmansk, Kostroma and Magadan regions.

According to the expert, the first places in corruption will always be those regions where "the circulation of financial assets is concentrated", where economically significant decisions are made, and federal authorities and large industrial centers are located.

However, it is not worth relying on statistics as the only true confirmation of the level of corruption in the regions, Baldin believes.

"It is necessary to take into account various factors and one of the most important is that corruption crimes are highly latency. Therefore, the generated statistics may rather indicate the activity of the region's law enforcement agencies in identifying them", - said the representative of the supervisory agency.

It's worth reminding that last year's top list of the most corrupt regions included Mordovia, Chuvashia, Kamchatka, Arkhangelsk, Bryansk, Magadan, Novgorod, Orenburg, Saratov and Tyumen regions.

Least of all corruption crimes were committed in Ingushetia, Khakassia, Altai Territory, Vologda, Moscow, Murmansk, Penza regions, St. Petersburg, Sevastopol and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

Note that at the beginning of the year, the head of the National Anti-Corruption Committee (NAC) Kirill Kabanov presented the most high-profile criminal cases of the past year. The list includes the arrests of the mayor of Tomsk Ivan Klein, the deputy chairman of the government of the Moscow region Dmitry Kurakin, the former governor of the Ivanovo region Mikhail Men, the arrest of the deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Irkutsk region Andrey Levchenko, the arrest of the deputy general director for information technology of the Russian Post JSC Sergey Yemelchenkov, the arrest of the former deputy director FSIN of Russia Valery Maksimenko, capture of the vice-governor of the Kirov region Andrey Plitko, arrest of the governor of the Khabarovsk region Sergey Furgal, arrest of businessman and politician Anatoly Bykov.
