Last year, Eurovision was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Participants approved last year may represent the country this year, but everyone will have to record new compositions. Performing with last year's hits is not allowed. Last year the Little Big group was supposed to represent Russia. The group refused to participate in this year's competition at the last moment, which was announced on the air of Channel One. As the leader of the group Ilya Prusikin explained, it was decided not to participate this year so that the audience would not compare this year's song with last year's hit "UNO".
Other contenders included the Russian indie band Therr Maitz, founded by musician Anton Belyaev, with the song "Future is bright", as well as group "2Mashas" with the song "Bitter words").
This year, Eurovision will be held in a truncated format . Each country accepts a limited number of people (contestants and their team members). All of them must pass a coronavirus test no earlier than three days before departure. All participants are advised to self-isolate five days before departure. This year's Eurovision will be held in Rotterdam from 18 to 22 May.
