As it turns out, this is not entirely true, and even not true at all. Here is what the public figure Pyotr Shkumatov writes about this:

Now, I believe, this figure will be higher, because the price of fuel has risen, and the buses themselves, and in general. How to understand how many kilometers a bus costs in 2020? I just took this number and inflated it. That is, he did not even become attached to the dollar exchange rate, which almost doubled. Official inflation only.

So, the price of a kilometer of a bus run in 2021, with this calculation, is 202 rubles. Let's round up to 200 rubles per kilometer.

Now let's calculate the economy. The average city bus travels about 200 km per day. Somewhere the runs are less, somewhere more, but the average is. In any case, it was in 2014, it is unlikely that since then the runs have increased sharply or, conversely, decreased. Therefore, on a day, such a bus, just in order to reach zero, must generate revenues of 200 km multiplied by 200 rubles / km = 40,000 rubles.

Now let's look at the fare, just imagine that there are no single, travel, preferential pensioners and schoolchildren, let it be 40 rubles. Therefore, in order to reach zero, such a bus must carry 1000 people per day.

Thus, where there is no traffic of 1000 people per day per bus (and there may be 10 buses on the line, then the traffic should be 10 thousand people for recoupment), public transport is unprofitable and must be subsidized at the expense of someone.

That is, if only one bus runs on the 10 km route (very low quality of transport services, wait at the bus stop for an average of 1 hour), then the minimum traffic for the self-sufficiency of such public transport is 1000 people a day, who buy tickets for their own money. 40 rubles. Or for which someone else pays, if they are beneficiaries.

I hasten to inform those who left the MKAD / KAD only on the way to the airport that in Russia 936 out of 1,100 cities (85%) are cities with a population of up to 100 thousand inhabitants. These cities simply do not generate the passenger traffic necessary for the payback of public transport due to their small number. Consequently, for small cities, public transport is loaded and it must be subsidized in almost 100% of cases. And where to get additional money for the already poor regions?

Therefore, in 85% of Russian cities, people try to drive cars, even if a person does not know how or does not want to drive, he always has someone who will give him a lift. Well, or a taxi is very inexpensive, in many small cities they come for 50 rubles. The reason is that the price of a kilometer of a passenger car's mileage is 10 rubles per km, and if it is a Zhiguli, then in general they travel at the price of gasoline, that is, 5 rubles per km. 4 passengers - you can travel very inexpensively, for example, the cost of a trip by four of us for 10 km on a rusty six turns out to be 12.5 rubles per person.

And this (affordable price) is what the residents of the regions need, they may have always wanted to drive around their town in Teslas, Mercedes and Jaguars, but they have no money for that. And the region does not have the money to transport them by buses, because public transport is expensive (remember - public transport is always expensive), and it is justified only where there is sufficient demand and traffic on the route. Where there is no demand, the bus will not be allowed. Or let me in, but then you have to answer the main question - who will pay for the banquet? "

True, in the comments to this publication, many Muscovites wondered why Shkumatov's everything is so complicated and expensive? After all, in Moscow, public transport works perfectly!

And the fact that already 200 km from Moscow the PAZ bus, which is falling apart and held on to electrical tape, wire, shit and sticks, travels not even once a day, but 3 days a week and twice - in the morning in one direction, and in the evening in the other , so it's just that the local government is bad, they need to give money from their unlimited budget and buy normal buses with Wi-Fi, tiles and borders! And better - electric buses, because ecology and that's all! There is always money in the budget! That's what the budget is for!
