According to the ministry, 28 isolates have been identified in Russia belonging to the "British" strain, two to the "South African", and in 16 cases other mutations were recorded.
The South African strain was found in the UK last December. Experts from the World Health Organization have recognized this variant of COVID-19 as more infectious than the usual one. However, it does not affect the severity of the disease.
Note that the growth in the incidence of covid in the world, which has flared up again in the world, is associated, first of all, with the spread of new strains that are more infectious.
It's worth reminding that in Finland, a completely new strain of coronavirus was identified in two local residents, differing in at least 15 regions of the genome, but at the same time similar to the more infectious British and South African strains. The Finnish strain is named Fin-796H.
