Between 200 and 300 protesters gathered for a rally in the former capital of Kazakhstan, Almaty. Protest actions took place in other cities of the country as well. The protesters fear that Chinese investors will receive privileges from the Kazakh authorities to the detriment of local businesses.

Residents of the cities of Kazakhstan took to the streets at the call of the leader of the opposition movement "Democratic Party of Kazakhstan" Zhanbolat Mamai and his supporter, a former banker Mukhtar Ablyazov, forced to leave the country.

According to rosbalt.ru, the protesters chanted that "Kazakhs are not slaves". They demanded that the authorities forbid Chinese investors to build 56 factories in Kazakhstan, as well as not sell land to the Chinese.

In Kazakhstan and Central Asia, many locals are increasingly wary of Chinese penetration into the region. Earlier, the authorities of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have already ceded part of the territory to China during the demarcation of the borders. In the 18th century, China made claims to a significant part of the regions of eastern Kazakhstan.
