The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has lifted the restrictions on the number of spectators in its tournaments.

However, this does not mean that stadiums will now be filled everywhere - the right to restrictions on spectators in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic has been transferred to local football associations.

In fact, this means that UEFA has transferred the authority to fill the stands at tournaments held under its auspices to local authorities. Earlier on October 1 last, 2020, UEFA gave the go-ahead for the stadium occupancy rate only within 30% of the stadium capacity. Now the executive committee of the union has come to the conclusion that such a restriction is no longer required. Also, UEFA lifted the ban on visiting futsal matches.

"Since the epidemiological situation in the 55 national associations of UEFA varies considerably, the decision on the permissible number of spectators should be made exclusively by the appropriate local and / or state authorities", - Interfax quoted the union as saying.

At the same time, UEFA said that it is necessary to keep in force another decision of October 1, 2020, according to which fans cannot go to away matches in UEFA tournaments, up to the finals of club competitions in May 2021, but with the exception of them.

The new UEFA decisions come into force on 1 April.
