Pandemic
Antiseptics are in high demand during the coronavirus pandemic. However, not all of them kill bacteria and viruses. Some sanitizers are just cosmetic products. Rospotrebnadzor allows their use as disinfectants if the composition contains at least 70% ethyl alcohol.

Roskachestvo (Russian quality system) investigated antiseptic gels of 20 brands. As specialists found out, most manufacturers indicate incomplete or inaccurate information on the content of alcohol, which is a disinfecting substance, on the packaging. Sanitizers Dettol (70.1%) and Garnier (70%) meet the requirements for ethyl alcohol content, and Tecomkhim (70.6%) and Klatz (63%) for isopropyl alcohol. Products of other brands had less alcohol in the composition, or there was no information about it on the packaging at all.

14 out of 20 checked manufacturers indicate on the packaging that the gel kills 99% of viruses and bacteria. However, it is not reported which pathogens are in question. At the same time, no one remedy will provide protection against all microbes and viruses at the same time. Therefore, such phrases are nothing more than a marketing ploy.

So, for example, all investigated antiseptics showed a satisfactory result in their effect on the virus, but none of them guarantee a 99.9% result. The sanitizers did better with the bacteria.

Experts also checked how long antiseptics last. Thus, gels of the Valdai Cosmetics, Septima, Aura, Dettol, Deonica, Dr.Safe, Garnier, Klatz and Lafitel brands have a disinfecting effect within five hours and destroy more than 99% of bacteria. The most unstable were Asepticum (destroyed 6.07% of E. coli), Floressan Sterilin (16.57%), "High five!" (19.35%) and Zero (24.43%).

According to the results of the check, five Russian brands of antiseptics can apply for the Quality Mark: Septima, Tekomkhim, Aquaprof, Deonica and Lafitel.
