The celebration of the 800th anniversary of Prince Alexander Nevsky by the Volgograd communists resembles in style the celebration in the USSR of the 100th anniversary of Lenin in 1970.

This photo was posted on his blog by journalist Maxim Klimenko:

“At the Stalinist pace, faithful to Lenin's precepts, let us revive Orthodoxy in Russia! "Volgograd Andy Warhol. What a text! What a color! What a picture! What a composition! I already took my breath away. I suspect that even on the 100th anniversary of Lenin's birth such frank pictures were not made. Pay attention - the thumb of the left hand reaches under chain mail just like Lenin's under the vest. Here it is, the icon of the church revival!"

Further, the author recalled the bizarre fate of the cult of Alexander Nevsky in the Stalinist USSR:

“The film “Alexander Nevsky ”was released on the screen on December 1, 1938 and earned national recognition. Sergei Eisenstein was awarded the Order of Lenin, received the Stalin Prize and the title of Doctor of Art History. After the signing of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, the film was withdrawn from the box office. In 1941, with the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, he returned to the screens. In 1942, on the occasion of the seven hundredth anniversary of the Battle on the Ice, a poster was issued with the words of Joseph Stalin: "May the courageous image of our great ancestors inspire you in this war..."
