The once most secret division of Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, Camp 7, has been finally closed. All prisoners from this unit were transferred to the neighboring unit, Camp 5, the US Southern Command said.

Exactly how many prisoners were held in this unit, is not noted, however, earlier the American authorities said that at least 14 of the most dangerous criminals could be in custody there. Five of them were involved in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack in New York. A total of 40 prisoners are currently held in Guantanamo, according Associated Press. The publication notes that the camp to which the prisoners were transferred was half empty.

Camp 7 was opened in December 2006. It was opened to criminals who were previously held in secret detention centers of the CIA, the so-called "black areas", the newspaper notes. There, prisoners were severely tortured. The interrogations were led by the military in agreement with the CIA. For a long time, the presence of this camp was carefully hidden.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden said that he intends to close the high security prison at the Guantanamo Naval Base . For this, with the approval of Congress, prisoners must be transferred to other prisons. A decision on this matter will be made in the coming months.

The prison was created after the September 11 attacks for international terrorists. She became a symbol of extreme cruelty towards prisoners. In this prison, they were brutally tortured and abused during interrogations. Three prisoners were tortured , deprived of sleep , and imitated drowning. If, under torture, they confessed to crimes , even those that did not commit, they were allowed to be executed.
