According to media reports, the visit of the head of state to the war- torn Donbass may take place this week.
"According to the interlocutor of the agency, the visit of the head of state to Donbass will be on Thursday or Friday, April 8 or 9", - RIA Novosti quotes a message from RBC-Ukraine.
The situation in Donbass worsened at the end of March. According to Ukrainian security officials, during the shelling near the village of Shumy in the Donetsk region, four soldiers were killed and two were injured.
In turn, representatives of the leadership of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic said that the number of provocations on the part of the Ukrainian military had increased. And on April 3, the DPR police announced the death of a five-year-old child who was the victim of a drone attack by the Ukrainian side. According to media reports, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation then opened a criminal case.
The Kremlin said that Russia is not a party to the conflict in Donbass and hopes that Kiev will be able to overcome the political and economic crisis in the country. At the same time, it became known about the massive transfer of Russian military forces in the direction of the Ukrainian border, which caused serious concern for NATO. In response to the claims of the North Atlantic Alliance, the Russian authorities stated that the movement of military equipment across the country is an internal affair of the Russian Federation.
The military conflict in Donbass was a consequence of the events of 2014, when, as a result of a referendum, the Ukrainian Crimea became part of Russia. At the same time, there was a destabilization of the situation on the territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine, the leadership of which declared the independence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics. In the course of the military conflict in the "hot spot", about 13,000 people have already died.
The international community has adopted a number of documents aimed at resolving the military conflict, but this year the previously reached ceasefire agreements have been increasingly violated. Zelensky said that the aggravated situation in Donbass should be discussed again with the leaders of the Normandy Four, which includes Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France.
