The World Health Organization indicated that the increase in the number of new cases is observed for the sixth week in a row.
According to the organization's specialists, the greatest growth was found in Southeast Asia, especially in India, as well as in the regions of the Western Pacific Ocean.
"All regions, except the African continent, reported an increase in the number of deaths, with the largest increase - by 46% - occurred in Southeast Asia", - said the WHO.
India has the largest number of new cases of covid - over 513 thousand (an increase of 38%). It is followed by Brazil - 505 thousand (a decrease of 5%). The USA closes the top three - 444 thousand (plus 5%). In Turkey, 265 thousand people fell ill with COVID-19 in a week (plus 43%), and in France - 244 thousand (minus 4%).
The WHO added Russia to the number of European countries, where the largest number of deaths was recorded during the week. In seven days, more than 2.6 thousand people infected with coronavirus have died in the Russian Federation (1.8 deaths per 100 thousand population). At the same time, the figure is less than the indicator of the previous week by 3%.
In total, according to WHO, more than 131.4 million cases of COVID-19 infection and 2.8 million deaths have been registered in the world.
It's worth reminding that the number of cases of infection with the British strain of covid is also growing in Russia. Initially, two cases of infection with this variant of infection were identified, and the day before, 81 cases became known.
Meanwhile, in Russia there is a mass vaccination of the population against the coronavirus, which began on January 18. Initially, only the Sputnik V vaccine was available to patients.
