Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissed the head of Tuva, Sholban Kara-ool (pictured), thus justifying the pre-election forecast of political scientists about the "retirement list of governors".

According to the Kremlin's website, Kara-ool resigned at his own request. Vladislav Khovalyg was appointed acting head of the region, who for ten years headed the capital of Tuva - the city of Kyzyl.

“Kara-ool has been the head of the republic since 2007. In the elections in 2016, he won more than 85% of the vote with a turnout of 90%”, - reports the Dozhd TV channel.

The term of office of Kara-ool, who has been in office for almost five years, expires in 2021. On the Single Election Day in September, joint elections of the State Duma deputies and the head of the region were to be held in the republic.

In mid-March, the Minchenko Consulting holding published another rating of governors' stability, including the head of Tuva Kara-ool, the governor of the Ulyanovsk region Sergey Morozov and the head of North Ossetia Vyacheslav Bitarov in the so-called “resignation list”.

Rumors about the possible resignation of the governor were officially denied by the press service of Kara-ool.

The past year was not very successful for Sholban Kara-ool: the governor was ill with coronavirus twice and faced a lot of problems at work.

According to Kara-ool, the problem of population poverty is extremely painful for the region, which cannot be overcome in any way. Tuva is on the list of subjects that are unfavorable for the spread of alcoholism, in connection with which the authorities have to regularly introduce additional regional measures to restrict the sale of alcohol.
