Security officials in Moscow detained Alexander Gorbatenko, a lawyer of the convicted ex-colonel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Dmitry Zakharchenko. He is suspected of mediating the transfer of a half-million bribe to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to Yulia Ivanova, the official representative of the capital's ICR head office, a criminal case has been initiated against the 56-year-old lawyer under paragraph "b" of Part 3 of Art. 291.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (mediation in bribery on a large scale).

The name of the detainee in the UK was not named. However, Interfax, citing its own source, reports that it is about the lawyer of the Moscow Bar Association Alexander Gorbatenko. It was he who defended the former employee of the Department of Economic Security and Anti-Corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Dmitry Zakharchenko.

“According to the investigation, in the period from July to August 2018, he“ acted as an intermediary in bribery in the interests of his acquaintance”, - the news agency notes.

The Investigative Committee believes that Gorbatenko's lawyer gave a bribe in the amount of 500 thousand rubles to the officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Khimki, in agreement with the accused, in order to assist in the initiation of a certain criminal case. For mediation in the transfer of a bribe, the lawyer was detained, now he is awaiting a court decision as it is prevented.

Earlier it was reported that Gorbatenko's client, former deputy head of the "T" department of the anti-corruption headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Colonel Dmitry Zakharchenko, was stripped of his rank in June 2019 and sentenced to 12.5 years in prison. During the searches in his case, he and his relatives were found to have funds totaling about 8.5 billion rubles. The total weight of the billionaire colonel's cash was about one and a half tons. By a court decision, the money was seized from Zakharchenko and his family members, since Dmitry Zakharchenko could not explain the origin of the billions found.

He was convicted of receiving a discount card to restaurants of Mehdi Duss, which saved almost three million rubles, and for informing the management of Nota Bank about the upcoming searches. In addition to a prison sentence, he was fined 118 million rubles.
