The Russian Defense Ministry told RIA Novosti that the MiG-31 fighter intercepted a US reconnaissance aircraft over the Pacific Ocean, which was approaching the borders of Russia. The "scout" changed course and withdrew from the territory of the Russian Federation.
"A MiG-31 fighter took off from an airfield in the Kamchatka Territory. The fighter's crew identified the aerial target as a US Air Force RC-135 strategic reconnaissance aircraft. After the turn of the foreign military aircraft from the state border of the Russian Federation, the Russian fighter safely returned to the home airfield", - the department said.
They added that the flight of the fighter was carried out in accordance with international rules for the use of airspace.
On April 10, the MiG-31 was also intercepted by an American reconnaissance aircraft over the Pacific Ocean.
