According to the chief pulmonologist of the Ministry of Health of Russia Sergey Avdeyev at the general meeting of the Department of Medical Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences, most of all from coronavirus in hospitals died among those patients who were connected to ventilators - 76.5% of them died.
Of the patients who were on non-invasive ventilation, 36.8% died, and when oxygen was supplied, 10%.
“According to the average Russian data, the mortality rate against the background of mechanical ventilation was over 75%”, - Avdeyev is quoted as saying by Interfax.
Patients connected to mechanical ventilation very often had complications: barotrauma, pneumotorex, subcutaneous emphysema, and the last of the listed complications occurred in the range of 10 to 40% of cases.
Based on the analysis of the data presented, the doctors came to the conclusion that the previously existing tactics of early intubation did not justify themselves: in order to increase the patient's chances of recovery, it is better to use not a ventilator connection, but “another tactic of respiratory support”.
According to the operational headquarters, more than 4.7 million people have been infected with the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic in Russia. Of these, 105,908 have died.
In recent days, the incidence of infection in the country, despite the ongoing mass vaccination, has gone up again. Epidemiologists say that the main reason for the incident is the refusal of many residents to wear masks. In addition, in many countries, new dangerous mutations of covid have been identified, which are particularly infectious.
