“We confirm that Ambassador Sullivan is on his way to Washington”, - spokeswoman for the diplomatic mission Rebecca Ross replied to RIA Novosti's question.
The US State Department clarified that Sullivan will return to the country to visit his family and meet with members of the new administration, and will return to Moscow "in the coming weeks".
The fact that Sullivan will leave the territory of the Russian Federation became known on April 20. Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry, in response to Washington's anti-Russian sanctions, expelled ten American diplomats and recommended Sullivan to go "home for consultations". In addition, an employee of the diplomatic mission was summoned to a meeting with aides to the President of Russia, Yuri Ushakov. There he was informed about the retaliatory measures by the Russian Federation.
Russian Ambassador Anatoly Antonov was also recalled from the United States.
