Russia restores flights with the resort cities of Egypt

Russia and Egypt have agreed to resume flights with Egyptian resort cities. Charter flights, in particular, will fly to Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh, according to a statement on the website of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi following a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The date of the resumption of flights has not yet been announced . However, as the executive director of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) Maya Lomidze clarified, it is likely that the restoration of air communication with the resort cities of Egypt will be after the May holidays.

"According to the data we have for today, the opening of direct flights to Egyptian resorts is scheduled after the May holidays, most likely in the second half of May", - Lomidze commented.

According to the Association, now about 10 thousand Russians are resting in Egyptian resorts, who flew in direct flights to Cairo, and from there they reached the resort cities by plane or by land transport. Before the closure of Turkey, Russians also flew to the resort cities of Egypt via Istanbul.

Earlier, the Association said that after the resumption of flights with the resort cities of Egypt, prices for tours to this country will fall in price by 70%. Lomidze added that it is in the interest of Egypt's tourism industry to maintain the same price level for Russians as it was before the shutdown of direct flights - about $ 300-500 per person for a week-long all-inclusive tour.

After the closure of flights with Turkey, Egypt may become the most popular destination in outbound tourism for Russians, but everything will depend on the regularity of transportation and prices for them, Lomidze summed up.

Recall that direct flights from Russia to the resort cities of Egypt were suspended after the crash of the A321 Kogalymavia aircraft in 2015.
