“I want to emphasize that this decision reflects the current state of affairs and was made on the basis of what we have been able to analyze to date”, - said the head of the agency, Antonio Barra Torres.
At the meeting, which lasted more than four hours, the conclusions of the department experts, their views on the safety and effectiveness of the Russian vaccine were presented.

"One of the critical points that we paid attention to is the presence of a multiplying adenovirus in the vaccine. That is, the virus, which should be used exclusively as a tool for delivering genetic material to human cells, forming an immune response, multiplies itself", - explained the head of the board of medicines and biological products Anvisa Gustav Mendes Lima Santos. He recommended banning the import of the drug.
One of the heads of the agency, Alex Mashado Campus, who was the keynote speaker on the issue of the Russian vaccine, said that basically the countries that have registered the drug do not have sufficient authority in the world. He recalled that Sputnik V was not approved by European and American regulators.
At the same time, the developers of the drug see a political motive in this step.
"Anvisa's delay in accepting permission for Sputnik V, unfortunately, is political in nature and has nothing to do with access to information about the vaccine or science", - the developers wrote on Twitter.
Recall that in Brazil since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 14.3 million people have been infected with covid. The country was one of the three leaders in the increase in the number of cases. At the same time, the state has twice already suspended the registration of the Russian vaccine due to the lack of the necessary information about the drug.
It's worth to note that in Argentina, neighboring with Brazil , production of Sputnik V began in April. Argentina became the first Latin American country to release it itself.
