Zelensky proposes to arrange meeting with Putin at Vatican

"It would be an optimal place from all points of view. The Vatican is really an ideal place for a dialogue about peace," Zelensky commented to the newspaper La Repubblika, answering the question whether Rome or the Vatican can become a meeting place for the two presidents. The President added that the Vatican is effectively acting as a mediator, being impartial and credible to all parties to the conflict. “That is why states have often turned here in history to resolve conflicts,” the president added.

Zelensky also assured that the meeting of the presidents will definitely take place in a place that inspires confidence on both sides. Recall that Zelensky invited his colleague to the talks on April 20 amid the escalation of the conflict in Donbass. In response, Putin invited Zelenskiy to Moscow for talks. Zelensky instructed the head of his office to organize this meeting.

Let us remind you that the conflict in the south-east of Ukraine has escalated since the end of February this year. The parties accuse each other of violating the ceasefire. During the shelling, two civilians were killed: a 71-year-old pensioner and a five-year-old child.
