In the past five years, the investigating authorities are two and a half times more likely to ask the court to provide access to information about the connections of cellular subscribers, RBC reports, citing data from the judicial department at the Supreme Court.
At the same time, the number of requests for wiretapping and access to correspondence of citizens is decreasing. If in 2015 the courts considered 243.8 thousand of such petitions, then in 2017 only 87 thousand of them were received by the authorities, and last year - 34 thousand.
Now representatives of law enforcement agencies are more likely to request data on bank deposits and accounts. In 2017, investigators and operatives requested permission for 139.3 thousand measures related to limiting bank secrecy. Last year, the number of such requests increased to 260 thousand. The number of excavations carried out, however, decreased - from 80 thousand in 2015 to 53 thousand in 2020.
We will remind that earlier in the Ministry of Digital Security it was proposed to allow the Ministry of Internal Affairs, FSB and FSO to receive data from mobile operators on the volume of services, their cost and geolocation of subscribers without court permission.
