India's coronavirus death toll hits record high daily

According to the TV channel NDTV, the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic in the country has grown to 226.1 thousand people. Over the past day, the disease was confirmed in another 382.3 thousand people. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the coronavirus has been detected in 20.6 million people in the country. The country is in second place in the number of cases of coronavirus in the world and in fourth in the number of deaths.

The country's doctors are no longer able to cope with the increased workload. There is a catastrophic oxygen situation in hospitals. Crematoria do not have time to burn the bodies of the dead. Additional open-air crematoria have been deployed in the country.

To combat the epidemic, Russia previously provided the country with 22 tons of humanitarian aid, including oxygen concentrators, ventilators, drugs for treating the disease and other necessary funds. In addition, on May 1, the first batch of Sputnik V vaccine was delivered to the country.

Local authorities associate such a rapid increase in the number of cases in the country with non-compliance with anti-epidemiological recommendations. Earlier, the country hosted the Kumbh Mela religious holiday, during which pilgrims from all over the country bathed in the Ganges River. In addition, a new especially dangerous strain of the coronavirus, the "Indian strain", has been identified in the country.
