"This (posting of a deposit - editor's note) followed an agreement reached by political parties on April 19, 2021 through the mediation of the EU", - said the EU Delegation to Georgia.
They expressed the hope that the release of Melia would be "another important step" towards ending the political crisis in Georgia and fulfilling the agreement of April 19, when, through Brussels, representatives of the ruling Georgian Dream (GM) party and most of the opposition parties signed the Georgia Way to the future".
“We expect this move to make it even easier for all elected members of parliament to join the agreement”, - the statement said.
Note that to sign the UNM document - Mikheil Saakashvili's party, the largest opposition force - refused to sign the document due to the fact that its chairman - Melia - is still in prison.
Earlier, supporters of Saakashvili's arrested associates took to the streets of Tbilisi, calling for the release of him and Melia, as well as the founder of the opposition television company Mtavari Archi (Main Channel) Giorgi Rurua.
Recall that Melia was accused of attempting a violent change of power back on June 21, 2019, when Mikheil Saakashvili's supporters participated in the assault on parliament. Giorgi Rurua was arrested on November 18, 2019, and charged with illegal possession of weapons.
